Buckinghamshire , abbreviated Bucks, is a ceremonial county in South East England that borders Greater London to the south-east, Berkshire to the south, Oxfordshire to the west, Northamptonshire to the north, Bedfordshire to the north-east and Hertfordshire to the east.

Buckinghamshire is one of the Home Counties, the counties of England that surround Greater London. Towns such as High Wycombe, Amersham, Chesham and the Chalfonts in the east and southeast of the county are parts of the London commuter belt, forming some of the most densely populated parts of the county, with some even instinctive served by the London Underground. Development in this region is restricted by the Metropolitan Green Belt. The largest pact is Milton Keynes in the northeast, which following the surrounding area is administered as a unitary authority separately to the on fire of Buckinghamshire. The remainder of the county is administered by Buckinghamshire Council as unconventional unitary authority. Shropshire (; alternatively Salop; abbreviated in print only as Shrops; demonym Salopian sə-LOH-pee-ən) is a landlocked historic county in the West Midlands region of England. It is bordered by Wales to the west and the English counties of Cheshire to the north, Staffordshire to the east, Worcestershire to the southeast, and Herefordshire to the south. A unitary authority of the thesame name was created in 2009, taking exceeding from the previous county council and five district councils, now governed by Shropshire Council. The borough of Telford and Wrekin has been a sever unitary authority in the past 1998, but remains allowance of the ceremonial county.

The county’s population and economy is centred upon five towns: the county town of Shrewsbury, which is culturally and historically important and close to the middle of the county;Telford, which was founded as a new town in the east which was build up around a number of older towns, most notably Wellington, Dawley and Madeley, which is today the most populous;Oswestry in the northwest, Bridgnorth to the south of Telford, and Ludlow in the south. The county has eighteen market towns, including Whitchurch in the north, Newport near Telford, and Market Drayton in the northeast.

The Ironbridge Gorge area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, covering Ironbridge, Coalbrookdale and a allowance of Madeley. There are supplementary historic industrial sites in the county, such as at Shrewsbury, Broseley, Snailbeach and Highley, as capably as the Shropshire Union Canal.

The Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty covers very nearly a quarter of the county, mainly in the south. Shropshire is one of England’s most rural and sparsely populated counties, with a population density of 136/km (350/sq mi). The Wrekin is one of the most well-known natural landmarks in the county, though the highest hills are the Clee Hills, Stiperstones and the Long Mynd. Wenlock Edge is different significant geographical and geological landmark. In the low-lying northwest of the county overlapping the connect with Wales is the Fenn’s, Whixall and Bettisfield Mosses National Nature Reserve, one of the most important and best preserved bogs in Britain. The River Severn, Great Britain’s longest river, runs through the county, exiting into Worcestershire by the Severn Valley.

Lancashire ( LAN-kə-shər, -⁠sheer; abbreviated Lancs.) is a county in North West England. Lancashire is a historic, ceremonial and non-metropolitan county and the county boundaries differ amid these alternative forms. Its county town is Lancaster. The non-metropolitan county was created by the Local Government Act 1972 and is administered by the Lancashire County Council and twelve district councils. Its administrative middle is Preston. The ceremonial county has a population of 1,449,300 and an area of 1,189 square miles (3,080 km).

The historic County Palatine of Lancashire included the large cities of Manchester and Liverpool as skillfully as the Furness and Cartmel peninsulas in the Lake District, and had an area of 1,909 square miles (4,940 km). Many of these places yet identify strongly afterward the county, particularly in areas of Greater Manchester (such as Oldham and Bury) where Lancashire is yet used as allowance of the postal address. The historic county was subject to a significant boundary reform in 1974 which created the current ceremonial county and removed Liverpool and Manchester, and most of their surrounding conurbations, to form the metropolitan and ceremonial counties of Merseyside and Greater Manchester. The distant northern portion of Lancashire in the Lake District, including the Furness Peninsula and Cartmel, was merged behind Cumberland and Westmorland to form Cumbria. Lancashire wandering 709 square miles of estate to new counties – about two fifths of its indigenous area – although it did get some land from the West Riding of Yorkshire.

The history of Lancashire begins once its founding in the 12th century. In the Domesday Book of 1086, some of its lands were treated as allowance of Yorkshire. The house that lay together with the Ribble and Mersey, Inter Ripam et Mersam, was included in the returns for Cheshire. Lancashire emerged as a major personal ad and industrial region during the Industrial Revolution. Liverpool and Manchester grew into its largest cities, with economies built vis-а-vis the docks and the cotton mills respectively. These cities dominated global trade and the birth of innovative industrial capitalism. The county contained several mill towns and the collieries of the Lancashire Coalfield. By the 1830s, approximately 85% of all cotton manufactured worldwide was processed in Lancashire. A number of towns and cities were major cotton mill towns during this time. Blackpool was a middle for tourism for the inhabitants of Lancashire’s mill towns, particularly during wakes week.

Devon (, archaically known as Devonshire) is a county in South West England, reaching from the Bristol Channel in the north to the English Channel in the south. It is bounded by Cornwall to the west, Somerset to the north-east and Dorset to the east. The city of Exeter is the county town. The county includes the districts of East Devon, Mid Devon, North Devon, South Hams, Teignbridge, Torridge and West Devon. Plymouth and Torbay are each geographically allocation of Devon, but are administered as unitary authorities. Combined as a ceremonial county, Devon’s area is 6,707 km (2,590 square miles) and its population is not quite 1.2 million.

Devon derives its name from Dumnonia (the shift from m to v is a typical Celtic consonant shift). During the British Iron Age, Roman Britain and the early Middle Ages, this was the homeland of the Dumnonii Brittonic Celts. The Anglo-Saxon concurrence of Britain resulted in the partial inclusion of Dumnonia into the Kingdom of Wessex during the eighth and ninth centuries. The western boundary with Cornwall was set at the River Tamar by King Æthelstan in 936. Devon was innovative constituted as a shire of the Kingdom of England.

The north and south coasts of Devon each have both cliffs and sandy shores, and the county’s bays contain seaside resorts, fishing towns and ports. The inland terrain is rural, generally hilly and has a demean population density than many other parts of England. Dartmoor is the largest entry space in southern England, at 954 km (368 square miles); its moorland extends across a large expanse of granite bedrock. To the north of Dartmoor are the Culm Measures and Exmoor. In the valleys and lowlands of south and east Devon the soil is more fertile, drained by rivers including the Exe, the Culm, the Teign, the Dart and the Otter.

Greater London is an administrative Place in England governed by the Greater London Authority, and a ceremonial county that covers the same area, with the exception of the City of London, which forms a separate ceremonial county. The administrative area, which has the same extent as the London Region, is organised into 33 local executive districts: the 32 London boroughs and the City of London. The Greater London Authority, based in Newham as of the Begin of 2024, is blamed for strategic local doling out across the Place and consists of the Mayor of London and the London Assembly.

Greater London was first conventional in 1965 as a sui generis council area and ceremonial county below the Greater London Council on 1 April 1965 through the London Government Act 1963. The GLC was abolished in 1986. In 1994, the Place was usual as a government office region called “London”. The Greater London Authority was formed in 2000.
