Gloucestershire ( /-ʃɪər/ (listen) abbreviated Glos) is a county in South West England. The county comprises ration of the Cotswold Hills, part of the flat fertile valley of the River Severn and the entire Forest of Dean.

The county town is the city of Gloucester and additional principal towns include Cheltenham, Stroud, Tewkesbury, Cirencester, Dursley, Cinderford and Lydney.

Gloucestershire borders Herefordshire to the north-west, Worcestershire to the north, Warwickshire to the north-east, Oxfordshire to the east, Wiltshire to the south, Bristol and Somerset to the south-west, and the Welsh county of Monmouthshire to the west.

West Yorkshire is a metropolitan and ceremonial county in England. It is an inland and, in relative terms, upland county having eastward-draining valleys while taking in the moors of the Pennines. West Yorkshire came into existence as a metropolitan county in 1974 after the passage of the Local Government Act 1972 and has a population of 2.3 million. Its largest settlements are Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Wakefield, Halifax, Keighley and Dewsbury.

West Yorkshire consists of five metropolitan boroughs (City of Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, City of Leeds and City of Wakefield) and is bordered by the counties of Derbyshire to the south, Greater Manchester to the south-west, Lancashire to the west and north-west, North Yorkshire to the north and east, and South Yorkshire to the south and south-east.

Remnants of strong coal, wool and iron ore industries remain in the county, having attracted people exceeding the centuries, and this can be seen in the buildings and architecture. Major railways and two major motorways traverse the county, which as a consequence contains Leeds Bradford International Airport.

West Yorkshire includes the West Yorkshire Built-up Area, which is the biggest and most built-up urban area within the historic county boundaries of Yorkshire.

Cornwall (;Cornish: Kernow [ˈkɛrnɔʊ]) is a historic county and ceremonial county in South West England. It is recognised as one of the Celtic nations, and is the homeland of the Cornish people. Cornwall is bordered to the north and west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the English Channel, and to the east by the county of Devon, with the River Tamar forming the attach between them. Cornwall forms the westernmost ration of the South West Peninsula of the island of Great Britain. The southwesternmost tapering off is Land’s End and the southernmost Lizard Point. Cornwall has a population of 568,210 and an area of 3,563 km² (1,376 sq mi). The county has been administered since 2009 by the unitary authority, Cornwall Council. The ceremonial county of Cornwall afterward includes the Isles of Scilly, which are administered separately. The administrative centre of Cornwall is Truro, its only city.

Cornwall was formerly a Brythonic kingdom and as soon as a royal duchy. It is the cultural and ethnic descent of the Cornish diaspora. The Cornish nationalist movement contests the present constitutional status of Cornwall and seeks greater autonomy within the United Kingdom in the form of a devolved legislative Cornish Assembly with powers similar to those in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. In 2014, Cornish people were arranged minority status under the European Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities, giving them acceptance as a clear ethnic group.

Recent discoveries of Roman remains in Cornwall indicate a greater Roman presence there than subsequently thought. After the collapse of the Roman Empire, Cornwall (along with Devon, parts of Dorset and Somerset, and the Scilly Isles) was a portion of the Brittonic kingdom of Dumnonia, ruled by chieftains of the Cornovii who may have included figures regarded as semi-historical or legendary, such as King Mark of Cornwall and King Arthur, evidenced by folklore traditions derived from the Historia Regum Britanniae. The Cornovii isolation of the Dumnonii tribe were estranged from their fellow Brythons of Wales after the Battle of Deorham in 577 AD, and often came into clash with the expanding English kingdom of Wessex. The regions of Dumnonia uncovered of Cornwall (and Dartmoor) had been annexed by the English by 838 AD.King Athelstan in 936 AD set the boundary amongst the English and Cornish at the tall water mark of the eastern bank of the River Tamar. From the Early Middle Ages, language and culture were shared by Brythons trading across both sides of the Channel, resulting in the corresponding high medieval Breton kingdoms of Domnonée and Cornouaille and the Celtic Christianity common to both areas.

Devon (, archaically known as Devonshire) is a county in South West England, reaching from the Bristol Channel in the north to the English Channel in the south. It is bounded by Cornwall to the west, Somerset to the north-east and Dorset to the east. The city of Exeter is the county town. The county includes the districts of East Devon, Mid Devon, North Devon, South Hams, Teignbridge, Torridge and West Devon. Plymouth and Torbay are each geographically ration of Devon, but are administered as unitary authorities. Combined as a ceremonial county, Devon’s Place is 6,707 km (2,590 square miles) and its population is about 1.2 million.

Devon derives its make known from Dumnonia (the shift from m to v is a typical Celtic consonant shift). During the British Iron Age, Roman Britain and the early Middle Ages, this was the homeland of the Dumnonii Brittonic Celts. The Anglo-Saxon treaty of Britain resulted in the partial interest of Dumnonia into the Kingdom of Wessex during the eighth and ninth centuries. The western boundary with Cornwall was set at the River Tamar by King Æthelstan in 936. Devon was superior constituted as a shire of the Kingdom of England.

Berkshire (BARK-shər, -⁠sheer; in the 17th century sometimes spelt phonetically as Barkeshire; abbreviated Berks.) is a historic county in South East England. One of the home counties, Berkshire was recognised by Queen Elizabeth II as the Royal County of Berkshire in 1957 because of the presence of Windsor Castle, and letters patent were issued in 1974. Berkshire is a county of historic origin, a ceremonial county and a non-metropolitan county without a county council. The county town is Reading.

The River Thames formed the historic northern boundary, from Buscot in the west to Old Windsor in the east. The historic county, therefore, includes territory that is now administered by the Vale of White Horse and parts of South Oxfordshire in Oxfordshire, but excludes Caversham, Slough and five less populous settlements in the east of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. All the changes mentioned, apart from the fiddle with to Caversham, took place in 1974. The towns of Abingdon, Didcot, Faringdon, Wallingford and Wantage were transferred to Oxfordshire, the six places joining came from Buckinghamshire.Berkshire County Council was the main local giving out of most areas from 1889 to 1998 and was based in Reading, the county town which had its own County Borough administration (1888–1974).

Since 1998, Berkshire has been governed by the six unitary authorities of Bracknell Forest, Reading, Slough, West Berkshire, Windsor and Maidenhead and Wokingham. The ceremonial county borders Oxfordshire to the north, Buckinghamshire to the northeast, Greater London(to the east, Surrey to the southeast, Wiltshire to the west and Hampshire to the south.
No ration of the county is on pinnacle of 8.5 miles (13.7 km) from the M4 motorway.

Greater London is an administrative area in England governed by the Greater London Authority, and a ceremonial county that covers the same area, with the exception of the City of London, which forms a surgically remove ceremonial county. The administrative area, which has the similar extent as the London Region, is organised into 33 local processing districts: the 32 London boroughs and the City of London. The Greater London Authority, based in Newham as of the Begin of 2024, is responsible for strategic local executive across the Place and consists of the Mayor of London and the London Assembly.

Greater London was first standard in 1965 as a sui generis council Place and ceremonial county below the Greater London Council on 1 April 1965 through the London Government Act 1963. The GLC was abolished in 1986. In 1994, the Place was customary as a government office region called “London”. The Greater London Authority was formed in 2000.

The region covers 1,572 km (607 sq mi) and had a population of 8,174,000 at the 2011 census. In 2018 the estimated population surpassed 9 million. Other areas, such as the London metropolitan area and Greater London Urban Area, are used in some national statistics for London, including areas outdoor this administrative region.

Greater London lacks any formal recognised city status in the UK, though two local authorities within the region, the City of Westminster and the City of London, have this status, and the wider metropolis of London is generally referred to as a city.

As a ceremonial county, Greater London has a Lord-Lieutenant and a High Sheriff, both appointed by the British monarch, but Greater London is not one of England’s historic counties. Greater London is split amongst parts of the historic counties of Middlesex, Essex, Surrey, Kent and Hertfordshire.

Before the UK seceded from the European Union in 2020 after Brexit, Greater London had furthermore been a regional constituency of the European Parliament, known generally as “London”.
