Cannock Chase AONB is within the county as well as parts of the National Forest and the Peak District national park.

Wolverhampton, Walsall, West Bromwich, and Smethwick are within the historic county boundaries of Staffordshire, but previously 1974 have been ration of the West Midlands county.

Apart from Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire is not speaking into the districts of Cannock Chase, East Staffordshire, Lichfield, Newcastle-under-Lyme, South Staffordshire, Stafford, Staffordshire Moorlands, and Tamworth.

Lancashire ( LAN-kə-shər, -⁠sheer; abbreviated Lancs.) is a county in North West England. Lancashire is a historic, ceremonial and non-metropolitan county and the county boundaries differ amid these substitute forms. Its county town is Lancaster. The non-metropolitan county was created by the Local Government Act 1972 and is administered by the Lancashire County Council and twelve district councils. Its administrative centre is Preston. The ceremonial county has a population of 1,449,300 and an area of 1,189 square miles (3,080 km).

The historic County Palatine of Lancashire included the large cities of Manchester and Liverpool as well as the Furness and Cartmel peninsulas in the Lake District, and had an Place of 1,909 square miles (4,940 km). Many of these places yet identify strongly subsequently the county, particularly in areas of Greater Manchester (such as Oldham and Bury) where Lancashire is yet used as portion of the postal address. The historic county was subject to a significant boundary reform in 1974 which created the current ceremonial county and removed Liverpool and Manchester, and most of their surrounding conurbations, to form the metropolitan and ceremonial counties of Merseyside and Greater Manchester. The proud northern share of Lancashire in the Lake District, including the Furness Peninsula and Cartmel, was merged later Cumberland and Westmorland to form Cumbria. Lancashire aimless 709 square miles of land to additional counties – about two fifths of its indigenous area – although it did gain some estate from the West Riding of Yorkshire.

The history of Lancashire begins afterward its founding in the 12th century. In the Domesday Book of 1086, some of its lands were treated as portion of Yorkshire. The house that lay along with the Ribble and Mersey, Inter Ripam et Mersam, was included in the returns for Cheshire. Lancashire emerged as a major poster and industrial region during the Industrial Revolution. Liverpool and Manchester grew into its largest cities, with economies built in this area the docks and the cotton mills respectively. These cities dominated global trade and the birth of modern industrial capitalism. The county contained several mill towns and the collieries of the Lancashire Coalfield. By the 1830s, approximately 85% of all cotton manufactured worldwide was processed in Lancashire. A number of towns and cities were major cotton mill towns during this time. Blackpool was a middle for tourism for the inhabitants of Lancashire’s mill towns, particularly during wakes week.

Today, the county borders Cumbria to the north, Greater Manchester and Merseyside to the south, and North and West Yorkshire to the east; with a coastline upon the Irish Sea to the west. The historic county‘s boundaries remain the thesame as those of the county palatine with Lancaster serving as the county town, and the Duke of Lancaster (i.e. the Queen) exercising sovereignty rights, including the consent of lords lieutenant in Greater Manchester and Merseyside.

South Yorkshire is a ceremonial and metropolitan county governed as a combined authority in north-central England. It had a population of 1.34 million in 2011 and has an Place of 1,552 square kilometres (599 sq mi). The county consists of four metropolitan boroughs—the City of Sheffield and the boroughs of Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham—collectively administered by a directly-elected mayor.

Lying upon the east side of the Pennines, South Yorkshire is landlocked, and borders Derbyshire to the west and south-west, West Yorkshire to the north-west, North Yorkshire to the north, the East Riding of Yorkshire to the north-east, Lincolnshire to the east and Nottinghamshire to the south-east. The largest harmony is Sheffield, its built-up area is the tenth most populous in the United Kingdom. With higher than half of the county’s population bustling within the built-up area, it dominates the county’s western half.

South Yorkshire was created on 1 April 1974 as a result of the Local Government Act 1972. It was created from 32 local government districts of the West Riding of Yorkshire (the administrative county and four independent county boroughs), with small areas from Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. South Yorkshire County Council was abolished in 1986 and its metropolitan boroughs effectively becoming unitary authorities, although the metropolitan county continues to exist in law.

As a ceremonial county, South Yorkshire has a Lord Lieutenant and a High Sheriff. The Place lies within the Sheffield City Region local enterprise partnership with Barnsley then being within the Leeds City Region, reflecting its geographical viewpoint midway in the middle of the cities.

In 2024, Doncaster became one of eight towns to successfully bid for city status and will be the second city (after Sheffield) in the county. This would goal the county will have two cities (Doncaster and Sheffield) and two boroughs (Barnsley and Rotherham).

West Yorkshire is a metropolitan and ceremonial county in England. It is an inland and, in relative terms, upland county having eastward-draining valleys though taking in the moors of the Pennines. West Yorkshire came into existence as a metropolitan county in 1974 after the lane of the Local Government Act 1972 and has a population of 2.3 million. Its largest settlements are Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Wakefield, Halifax, Keighley and Dewsbury.

West Yorkshire consists of five metropolitan boroughs (City of Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, City of Leeds and City of Wakefield) and is bordered by the counties of Derbyshire to the south, Greater Manchester to the south-west, Lancashire to the west and north-west, North Yorkshire to the north and east, and South Yorkshire to the south and south-east.

Remnants of mighty coal, wool and iron ore industries remain in the county, having attracted people higher than the centuries, and this can be seen in the buildings and architecture. Major railways and two major motorways traverse the county, which in addition to contains Leeds Bradford International Airport.

West Yorkshire includes the West Yorkshire Built-up Area, which is the biggest and most built-up urban area within the historic county boundaries of Yorkshire.

West Sussex is a county in South East England on the English Channel coast. The ceremonial county comprises the shire districts of Adur, Arun, Chichester, Horsham, and Mid Sussex, and the boroughs of Crawley and Worthing. Covering an Place of 1,991 square kilometres (769 sq mi), West Sussex borders Hampshire to the west, Surrey to the north, and East Sussex to the east. The county town and only city in West Sussex is Chichester, located in the south-west of the county. This was legally formalised in the express of the launch of West Sussex Council in 1888 but within the ceremonial Sussex. After the reorganisation of local running in 1974, the ceremonial undertaking of the historic county of Sussex was divided into two cut off counties, West Sussex and East Sussex. The existing East and West Sussex councils took run respectively, with Mid Sussex and parts of Crawley mammal transferred to the West Sussex administration from East Sussex.
In the 2011 census, West Sussex recorded a population of 806,900.

The county has a long history of human harmony dating urge on to the Lower Paleolithic era. The Romans conquered West Sussex’s indigenous Britons, and incorporated the Place as a Roman province. During the Early Middle Ages, the Saxons settled the area, establishing the Kingdom of Sussex in 477, which lasted until c. 827 when the kingdom was annexed by Wessex.

West Sussex has a range of scenery, including wealden, downland and coastal. The highest reduction of the county is Blackdown, at 280 metres (919 ft). It has a number of stately homes including Goodwood, Petworth House and Uppark, and castles such as Arundel Castle and Bramber Castle. Over half the county is protected countryside, offering walking, cycling and other recreational opportunities.
