Cumbria ( KUM-bree-ə) is a ceremonial and non-metropolitan county in North West England, bordering Scotland. The county and Cumbria County Council, its local government, came into existence in 1974 after the path of the Local Government Act 1972. Cumbria’s county town is Carlisle, in the north of the county. The only supplementary major urban Place is Barrow-in-Furness upon the south-western tip of the county.

The administrative county of Cumbria consists of six districts (Allerdale, Barrow-in-Furness, Carlisle, Copeland, Eden and South Lakeland) and, in 2019, had a population of 500,012 residents. Cumbria is one of the most sparsely populated counties in England, with 73.4 people per km (190/sq mi). On 1 April 2024, the administrative county of Cumbria would be abolished and replaced gone two supplementary unitary authorities; Westmorland and Furness (Barrow-in-Furness, Eden, South Lakeland) and Cumberland (Allerdale, Carlisle, Copeland).

Cumbria is the third largest ceremonial county in England by area. It is bounded to the north-east by Northumberland, the east by County Durham,
the south-east by North Yorkshire, the south by Lancashire, the west by the Irish Sea, the north-west by the Scottish council areas of Dumfries and Galloway, and the north by Scottish Borders.

Cardiff (; Welsh: Caerdydd [kairˈdiːð, kaːɨrˈdɨːð] (listen)) is the capital and largest city of Wales. It forms a principal area, officially known as the City and County of Cardiff (Welsh: Dinas a Sir Caerdydd), and the city is the eleventh-largest in the United Kingdom. Located in the south-east of Wales and in the Cardiff Capital Region, Cardiff is the county town of the historic county of Glamorgan and in 1974–1996 of South Glamorgan. It belongs to the Eurocities network of the largest European cities. A small town until the ahead of time 19th century, its beat as a harbor for coal in the space of mining began in the region helped its expansion. In 1905 it was ranked as a city and in 1955 proclaimed capital of Wales. Cardiff Built-up Area covers a larger Place outside the county boundary, including the towns of Dinas Powys and Penarth.

Cardiff is the main commercial centre of Wales as with ease as the base for the Senedd. At the 2011 census, the unitary authority Place population was put at 346,090, and the wider urban area at 479,000. In 2011 it ranked sixth in the world in a National Geographic magazine list of alternating tourist destinations. It is the most popular destination in Wales behind 21.3 million visitors in 2017.

Cardiff is a major middle for television and film production (such as Doctor Who, Torchwood and Sherlock) and is the Welsh base for the main national broadcasters.

Essex is a county in the East of England. One of the home counties, it borders Suffolk and Cambridgeshire to the north, the North Sea to the east, Hertfordshire to the west, Kent across the estuary of the River Thames to the south, and Greater London to the south and south-west. The county town is Chelmsford, which is one of two cities in the county, the supplementary being Southend-on-Sea which was decided city status on 1 March 2024. Colchester will become a city sophisticated in 2024 as ration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. For the purposes of doling out statistics, Essex is placed in the East of England region.

There are four definitions of the extent of Essex, the widest being the ancient county. Next largest is the former postal county, followed by the ceremonial county, with the smallest creature the administrative county—the area administered by the County Council, which excludes the two unitary authorities of Thurrock and Southend-on-Sea, and the areas administered by the Greater London Authority.

The ceremonial county occupies the eastern share of what was, during the Early Middle Ages, the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Essex. As capably as rural areas, the county after that includes: London Stansted Airport, the new towns of Basildon and Harlow, Lakeside Shopping Centre, the port of Tilbury, and the City of Southend-on-Sea.

Kent is a county in South East England and one of the home counties. It borders Greater London to the north-west, Surrey to the west and East Sussex to the south-west, and Essex to the north across the estuary of the River Thames; it faces the French department of Pas-de-Calais across the Strait of Dover. The county town is Maidstone. It is the fifth most populous county in England, the most populous non-Metropolitan county and the most populous of the home counties.

Kent was one of the first British territories to be established by Germanic tribes, most notably the Jutes, following the invalidation of the Romans.Canterbury Cathedral in Kent, the oldest cathedral in England, has been the seat of the Archbishops of Canterbury since the conversion of England to Christianity that began in the 6th century with Saint Augustine. Rochester Cathedral in Medway is England’s second-oldest cathedral. Located amid London and the Strait of Dover, which separates England from mainland Europe, Kent has been the environment for both lawsuit and diplomacy, including the Battle of Britain in World War II and the Leeds Castle peace talks of 1978 and 2004.

England relied on the county’s ports to offer warships through much of its history; the Cinque Ports in the 10th–14th centuries and Chatham Dockyard in the 16th–20th centuries were of particular importance. France can be seen conveniently in Good weather from Folkestone and the White Cliffs of Dover. Hills in the form of the North Downs and the Greensand Ridge span all along the county and in the Vale of Holmesdale in together with and to the south are most of the county’s 26 castles.

Kent’s economy is diversified: agriculture, haulage, logistics and tourism are various industries. Because of its orchards and allotments, Kent is known as “The Garden of England”. In northwest Kent, industries supplement extraction of aggregate building materials, printing and scientific research. Coal mining has then played its part in Kent’s industrial heritage. Large parts of Kent are within the London commuter belt and its strong transport associates to the capital and the clear continent make Kent a high-income county. Twenty-eight per cent of the county forms part of two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty: the North Downs and The High Weald.

Staffordshire (; postal abbreviation Staffs.) is a landlocked county in the West Midlands of England. It borders Cheshire to the northwest, Derbyshire and Leicestershire to the east, Warwickshire to the southeast, the West Midlands County and Worcestershire to the south, and Shropshire to the west.

The largest pact in Staffordshire is Stoke-on-Trent, which is administered as an independent unitary authority, separately from the burning of the county. Lichfield is a cathedral city. Other major settlements include Stafford, Burton upon Trent, Cannock, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Rugeley, Leek, and Tamworth.

Other towns include Stone, Cheadle, Uttoxeter, Hednesford, Brewood, Burntwood/Chasetown, Kidsgrove, Eccleshall, Biddulph and the large villages of Penkridge, Wombourne, Perton, Kinver, Codsall, Tutbury, Alrewas, Barton-under-Needwood, Shenstone, Featherstone, Essington, Stretton and Abbots Bromley. Cannock Chase AONB is within the county as with ease as parts of the National Forest and the Peak District national park.

Wolverhampton, Walsall, West Bromwich, and Smethwick are within the historic county boundaries of Staffordshire, but previously 1974 have been allowance of the West Midlands county.

Apart from Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire is on bad terms into the districts of Cannock Chase, East Staffordshire, Lichfield, Newcastle-under-Lyme, South Staffordshire, Stafford, Staffordshire Moorlands, and Tamworth.

Greater London is an administrative area in England governed by the Greater London Authority, and a ceremonial county that covers the same area, with the exception of the City of London, which forms a separate ceremonial county. The administrative area, which has the same extent as the London Region, is organised into 33 local organization districts: the 32 London boroughs and the City of London. The Greater London Authority, based in Newham as of the Begin of 2024, is responsible for strategic local management across the area and consists of the Mayor of London and the London Assembly.

Greater London was first acknowledged in 1965 as a sui generis council area and ceremonial county below the Greater London Council upon 1 April 1965 through the London Government Act 1963. The GLC was abolished in 1986. In 1994, the Place was expected as a organization office region called “London”. The Greater London Authority was formed in 2000.

The region covers 1,572 km (607 sq mi) and had a population of 8,174,000 at the 2011 census. In 2018 the estimated population surpassed 9 million. Other areas, such as the London metropolitan Place and Greater London Urban Area, are used in some national statistics for London, including areas external this administrative region.
