Greater Manchester is a metropolitan county and combined authority area in North West England, with a population of 2.8 million; comprising ten metropolitan boroughs: Manchester, Salford, Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan. The county was created on 1 April 1974, as a outcome of the Local Government Act 1972, and designated a functional city region on 1 April 2011. Greater Manchester is formed of parts of the historic counties of Cheshire, Lancashire and the West Riding of Yorkshire.

Greater Manchester spans 493 square miles (1,277 km), which around covers the territory of the Greater Manchester Built-up Area, the second most populous urban Place in the UK. Though geographically landlocked, it is amalgamated to the sea by the Manchester Ship Canal which is still open to shipping in Salford and Trafford. Greater Manchester borders the ceremonial counties of Cheshire (to the south-west and south), Derbyshire (to the south-east), West Yorkshire (to the north-east), Lancashire (to the north) and Merseyside (to the west). There is a amalgamation of high-density urban areas, suburbs, semi-rural and rural locations in Greater Manchester, but estate use is mostly urban—the product of concentric urbanisation and industrialisation which occurred mostly during the 19th century past the region flourished as the global middle of the cotton industry. Several county-wide facilities were co-ordinated through the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities between 1985 and 2011.

Greater Manchester is an amalgamation of 70 former local executive districts from the former administrative counties of Lancashire, Cheshire, the West Riding of Yorkshire and eight independent county boroughs. West Sussex is a county in South East England on the English Channel coast. The ceremonial county comprises the shire districts of Adur, Arun, Chichester, Horsham, and Mid Sussex, and the boroughs of Crawley and Worthing. Covering an area of 1,991 square kilometres (769 sq mi), West Sussex borders Hampshire to the west, Surrey to the north, and East Sussex to the east. The county town and only city in West Sussex is Chichester, located in the south-west of the county. This was legally formalised as soon as the launch of West Sussex Council in 1888 but within the ceremonial Sussex. After the reorganisation of local doling out in 1974, the ceremonial perform of the historic county of Sussex was divided into two cut off counties, West Sussex and East Sussex. Worcestershire ( WUUS-tər-shər, -⁠sheer; written abbreviation: Worcs) is a county in the West Midlands of England. The area that is now Worcestershire was absorbed into the unified Kingdom of England in 927, at which grow old it was constituted as a county (see History of Worcestershire). Over the centuries the county borders have been modified, but it was not until 1844 that substantial changes were made. This culminated following the abolition of Worcestershire in 1974 in the impression of its northern Place becoming part of the West Midlands and the burning part of the county of Hereford and Worcester. Greater London is an administrative area in England governed by the Greater London Authority, and a ceremonial county that covers the similar area, with the exception of the City of London, which forms a surgically remove ceremonial county. As a ceremonial county, Greater London has a Lord-Lieutenant and a High Sheriff, both appointed by the British monarch, but Greater London is not one of England’s historic counties. Greater London is split between parts of the historic counties of Middlesex, Essex, Surrey, Kent and Hertfordshire.

Before the UK seceded from the European Union in 2020 after Brexit, Greater London had plus been a regional constituency of the European Parliament, known generally as “London”.

Surrey is a county in South East England which borders Kent to the east, East Sussex to the southeast, West Sussex to the south, Hampshire to the west, Berkshire to the northwest, and Greater London to the northeast. With just about 1.2 million people, Surrey is the 12th-most populous English county, the third-most populous home county, after Kent and Essex, and the third-most populous in the Southeast, after Hampshire and Kent.

Surrey is a relatively affluent county. It has the highest proportion of woodland of counties in England. It has four horse racing courses, and golf courses including the international competition venue at Wentworth.

Guildford is popularly regarded as the county town, although past 2020 Surrey County Council has been based at Woodhatch area in Reigate, having in the past been based at County Hall, Kingston-upon-Thames from 1893 until 2020. Surrey is at odds into eleven districts.
