Derbyshire (;DAR-bee-SHI-er or DAR-bee-shur) is a county in the East Midlands of England. It includes much of the Peak District National Park, the southern end of the Pennine range of hills and part of the National Forest. It borders Greater Manchester to the north-west, West Yorkshire to the north, South Yorkshire to the north-east, Nottinghamshire to the east, Leicestershire to the south-east, Staffordshire to the west and south-west and Cheshire to the west. Kinder Scout, at 636 metres (2,087 ft), is the highest tapering off and Trent Meadows, where the River Trent leaves Derbyshire, the lowest at 27 metres (89 ft). The north–south River Derwent is the longest river at 66 mi (106 km). In 2003, the Ordnance Survey named Church Flatts Farm at Coton in the Elms, near Swadlincote, as Britain’s furthest point from the sea.Derby is a unitary authority area, but remains portion of the ceremonial county. The non-metropolitan county has 30 towns of 10,000–100,000 inhabitants, but much sparsely populated crop growing upland.

Lancashire ( LAN-kə-shər, -⁠sheer; abbreviated Lancs.) is a county in North West England. Lancashire is a historic, ceremonial and non-metropolitan county and the county boundaries differ amongst these rotate forms. Its county town is Lancaster. The non-metropolitan county was created by the Local Government Act 1972 and is administered by the Lancashire County Council and twelve district councils. Its administrative centre is Preston. The ceremonial county has a population of 1,449,300 and an area of 1,189 square miles (3,080 km).

The historic County Palatine of Lancashire included the large cities of Manchester and Liverpool as with ease as the Furness and Cartmel peninsulas in the Lake District, and had an area of 1,909 square miles (4,940 km). Many of these places nevertheless identify strongly afterward the county, particularly in areas of Greater Manchester (such as Oldham and Bury) where Lancashire is nevertheless used as allowance of the postal address. The historic county was subject to a significant boundary reform in 1974 which created the current ceremonial county and removed Liverpool and Manchester, and most of their surrounding conurbations, to form the metropolitan and ceremonial counties of Merseyside and Greater Manchester. The archives of Lancashire begins considering its founding in the 12th century. In the Domesday Book of 1086, some of its lands were treated as allowance of Yorkshire. The home that lay amongst the Ribble and Mersey, Inter Ripam et Mersam, was included in the returns for Cheshire. Lancashire emerged as a major classified ad and industrial region during the Industrial Revolution. Liverpool and Manchester grew into its largest cities, with economies built not far afield off from the docks and the cotton mills respectively. These cities dominated global trade and the birth of liberal industrial capitalism. The county contained several mill towns and the collieries of the Lancashire Coalfield. By the 1830s, approximately 85% of everything cotton manufactured worldwide was processed in Lancashire. A number of towns and cities were major cotton mill towns during this time. Blackpool was a centre for tourism for the inhabitants of Lancashire’s mill towns, particularly during wakes week.

Today, the county borders Cumbria to the north, Greater Manchester and Merseyside to the south, and North and West Yorkshire to the east; with a coastline upon the Irish Sea to the west. The historic county’s boundaries remain the same as those of the county palatine taking into consideration Lancaster serving as the county town, and the Duke of Lancaster (i.e. the Queen) exercising sovereignty rights, including the agreement of lords lieutenant in Greater Manchester and Merseyside.

Greater Manchester is a metropolitan county and combined authority area in North West England, with a population of 2.8 million; comprising ten metropolitan boroughs: Manchester, Salford, Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan. The county was created on 1 April 1974, as a result of the Local Government Act 1972, and designated a functional city region on 1 April 2011. Greater Manchester spans 493 square miles (1,277 km), which roughly covers the territory of the Greater Manchester Built-up Area, the second most populous urban area in the UK. Though geographically landlocked, it is connected to the sea by the Manchester Ship Canal which is nevertheless open to shipping in Salford and Trafford. Greater Manchester borders the ceremonial counties of Cheshire (to the south-west and south), Derbyshire (to the south-east), West Yorkshire (to the north-east), Lancashire (to the north) and Merseyside (to the west). There is a mixture of high-density urban areas, suburbs, semi-rural and rural locations in Greater Manchester, but home use is mostly urban—the product of concentric urbanisation and industrialisation which occurred mostly during the 19th century past the region flourished as the global centre of the cotton industry. Andy Burnham is the inaugural Mayor of Greater Manchester, elected in 2017. For the 12 years later than 1974, the county had a two-tier system of local government; district councils shared skill with the Greater Manchester County Council. The county council was abolished in 1986 and appropriately its districts (the metropolitan boroughs) effectively became unitary authority areas. However, the metropolitan county continued to exist in pretense and as a geographic frame of reference, and as a ceremonial county, with a Lord Lieutenant and a High Sheriff. Several county-wide services were co-ordinated through the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities between 1985 and 2011.

Northumberland is a county in Northern England, one of two counties in England which attach with Scotland. Notable landmarks in the county include Alnwick Castle, Bamburgh Castle, Hadrian’s Wall and Hexham Abbey.

It is bordered by land on three sides; by the Scottish Borders region to the north, County Durham and Tyne and Wear to the south, and Cumbria to the west. The fourth side is the North Sea, with a 103 kilometres (64 mi) along its coastline. to the east.
